About San Francisco Font
San Francisco is a sans-serif typeface in the neo-grotesque style. This typeface was created by Apple Inc. It was released for the first time on November 18, 2014. San Francisco draws inspiration from Helvetica and DIN. This font has three primary variations, while others are reserved for internal Apple usage. Below are the three primary versions.
SF UI/SF Pro
iOS, macOS, tvOS, most promotional materials
watchOS, Photos (editing), product text
Terminal, Console, Xcode, Photos (Memories)
In SF Compact and SF Pro, every style comes with 9 weights with italics (Display, Text and Rounded). The Display style is for large and Text for small text. If you’re writing a document or a paragraph, you’ll need to include a title, subtitle, and smaller text to make everything seem nicer that is where these two styles will help you. Text letters have much larger apertures and more flexible letter spacing than display letters.
San Francisco has steadily overtaken most of Apple’s existing fonts on its software and hardware devices, as well as for overall branding, since its release. It’s a basic and clean typeface that’s easy to read no matter where you are or who you are.
The other Sans Francisco variants are non-distributed. These fonts also use apples in many of their applications. Hopefully, you can learn about these variants from the table below.
