About Eras Font
Eras is a typeface that is both humanist and sans-serif, designed by Albert Boton and Albert Hollenste late in the 1960s. By removing the serif from Basilea, Boton and Hollenste created Eras. It was released by the International Typeface Corporation (ITC) in 1976. Later, the Linotype Foundry licensed the typeface. Before the design was released through ITC, Boton and Hollenstein expanded the limited character complement and designed additional weights for it. Now, Eras has six styles.
It has a 3-degree right tilt, an attractive and distinctive feature. This font complies with ITC’s formulary by having a high x-height and a range of weights from light to ultra-bold, though it does not have an italic version because all weights are slightly slanted. The characters A, P, R, 6, and 9 also have open bowls, which set them apart from other designs. In the lighter versions, the letter W is shaped as a merged “double V” shape; in the bolder versions, it is represented as the standard W symbol.
Telecom Italia Mobile has used Eras extensively as a corporate typeface. The emblem and image from the 1998 FIFA World Cup were also designed using this font. In summary, Eras is a very popular and useful font.
