About Sabon Font

Sabon is one of the most popular and might be the oldest old-style serif font. Jan Tschichold, a well known German-born type designer, designed it between 1964 and 1967. The three type foundries, Linotype, Monotype, and Stempel, have jointly released Sabon in 1967.

Design And Characteristics

The design of Sabon was based on the typefaces of Claude Garamond, and the italic was influenced by Robert Granjon. It is usually more formal than modern fonts because the letters are crisper, and the contrast between thick and thin strokes is stronger. It comes in 4 styles: Sabon Roman, Sabon Italic, Sabon Bold, Sabon Bold Italic. The Linotype hot metal typesetting machines of that era utilized duplexing, which meant that the italic and bold styles had to take up the same amount of space as the roman.

So whether you’re looking to add a touch of class to your web pages or just want them to look better in print, Sabon is worth considering!
