About Papyrus Font

Papyrus is a handwritten font that was made with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics in mind. Most designers and artists use this type of font for a variety of purposes. Chris Costello created it in 1982, and it has been widely used ever since. Papyrus has a unique look because it has rough edges, wavy lines, and high horizontal strokes in the capitals. Papyrus has been used in a lot of Microsoft apps. The font is called a “unique Roman typeface” by ITC, the current owner of the typeface. It blends the beauty of a typical Roman letterform with the hand-crafted look of very skilled calligraphy. The free version of the Papyrus font download is available here for testing only.

Papyrus font was designed by Chris Costello when he was in his early 20s. He got the idea for this font from the Bible. His goal was to portray how a font would appear in biblical times. When he used a pen and some paper with a rough surface to make the font, it took him only six months.

The font appears in the title and subtitle of James Cameron’s film Avatar. It appears in the heavy metal logo for Lamb of God as well as numerous covers for Viper’s albums. The Papyrus EF Alternatives (also known as Papyrus EF Regular) is an alternative typeface from Elsner+Flake that is similar to Costello’s font. The capital P is shorter and sharper, the capital E has an extended top bar but a smaller middle bar, and the A has a swash.
